Introduction to Clay Dates

3 Week Introduction to Clay
A relaxed, friendly introduction to clay with Emily. Perfect if you want to learn a new craft or simply enjoy the calming, hands-on process of hand-building.

Over three weeks we’ll explore different techniques and create a small collection of finished pieces:

Week 1: We will begin by slab building a mug 
Week 2: Create a unique vase using the coil building method
Week 3: Glaze your fired mugs from week 1 and decorate your vase from week 2 using slips, underglazes and carving techniques

You’ll be shown everything step by step, with plenty of support along the way. No experience needed at all.

If you’d like, you can also bring your own ideas and we can work together to develop them as you go.

After the course, your work will be fired and ready to collect within 3-4 weeks.

All materials, firings, good chat, and plenty of tea included.

A few studio notes
The studio is outdoors, so it does vary with the weather — warm in the summer and quite cool in the winter. Please come in layers so you can stay comfortable and adjust as needed.

Clay does wash out, but I’d avoid wearing anything you’re particularly precious about. Just something relaxed that you don’t mind getting a bit messy.

Firing
One of the realities of working with clay is that pieces can occasionally crack or change in the kiln. It doesn’t happen often, but it is part of the process. Everything is handled with care, but I can’t guarantee every piece will come through perfectly.

At the moment, the studio isn’t wheelchair accessible. If you have any access needs or anything you’d like to discuss before booking, please do get in touch.

Tickets are non-refundable.

If you need to reschedule, please give at least 7 working days’ notice and I’ll do my best to move you onto another date, subject to availability.
