Called by the Ocean

Called by the Ocean

This commission was created for Disney, who asked me to make a clay version of a Kakamora in my own illustrative style, inspired by the visual motifs and storytelling of Moana 2. Building on the Kakamoras’ original coconut form, I translated the character into clay and gave the small coconut warrior arms and legs to enhance its sense of personality, movement, and charm. With just one week to complete the piece, it was a fast turnaround and very much a one-shot build, guided by instinctive mark-making and playful decision-making throughout the process. The sculpture was fired upside down—a slightly nerve-wracking but they were fired with success —and now lives in the studio rent-free, quietly causing mischief and serving as a joyful reminder of a high-energy creative sprint.
